OAK RIDGE, TN – The documentary film LOOKING FOR MS. LOCKLEAR has been awarded the Southern Lens Award for the Best Southern Film, presented each year by South Carolina Public Television to a Secret City Film Festival selection. The film, written and directed by North Carolina filmmakers Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal, was chosen in August as an official selection of the 2008 Secret City Film Festival, which will be held October 9-12 at the Oak Ridge Playhouse in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

The film is the story of two lifelong best friends and ‘semi-famous web comedians’, searching for the teacher of the first grade class where they met. Deciding to use only word of mouth, their journey leads them deep into the heart of an obscure tribe of Native Americans, the Lumbee of North Carolina.

According to Amy Shumaker, Executive Producer of the Southern Lens television program, which airs statewide on the South Carolina Public Television network, the purpose of the Southern Lens Award is to “honor the best in southern filmmaking and acknowledge the creativity and hard work of southern filmmakers.”

In announcing the winner of the Southern Lens Award, Shumaker said, “LOOKING FOR MS. LOCKLEAR is fresh and ‘edu-taining.’ The filmmakers were able to find a nice balance between documentary and comedy.” She added, “It’s a perfect fit for SCETV’s indie film series, Southern Lens.”

Keith McDaniel, founder of the Secret City Film Festival, said, “We are thrilled to be able to recognize this wonderful film. Rhett and Link are great filmmakers and with LOOKING FOR MS. LOCKLEAR, they have hit a home run.”

LOOKING FOR MS. LOCKLEAR is scheduled to screen at the Secret City Film Festival on Friday, October 10th at 6:45 pm. Tickets for the festival are available for online purchase by visiting: www.secretcityfilmfestival.com.
