Knoxville Jazz Documentary

A documentary on the history of jazz in Knoxville is in the works. It is a project of the Knoxville Jazz Festival and is being produced by Nelda Hill at the Public Library and Chris Barrett of Metro Pulse. The film is being edited to fit the PBS format, and there is hope of a national broadcast. A short trailer for the film is available online at the link below.

Many of the interviews have already been filmed, as well as some live recordings from around town, but the production team is now trying to raise enough money to complete the project. The money raised will go to hire the crew to shoot a few more live concerts, including Bill Scarlett’s Tribute to John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins at the Square Room as well as a KJO concert or two.
